Changes in vascular health do not show up in the same manner for each person. For some, damaged vessels appear as raised varicose veins or thin spider veins. For others, these changes manifest as skin discoloration, swelling, or hard-to-heal ulcers.
At Florida Lakes Vein Center, our team uses state-of-the-art solutions to diagnose and treat unhealthy veins. In Fort Myers, we help our patients find relief from various stages of vein disease with nonsurgical treatments.
Keep reading to explore what vein complications we can treat, and when you should visit our clinic.
What Makes a Vein Unhealthy?
When your veins cannot move blood flow up towards the heart, they can become unhealthy. With a weak structure, veins can twist, swell, and bulge, leading to pooled blood and compromised circulation.
Excess pressure and faulty blood flow can create an unhealthy vessel. If your veins cannot move blood as they should, you can be at risk for varicose veins, spider veins, and other forms of vein disease.
Vein Concerns We Treat
At Florida Lakes Vein Center, we treat many forms of vein disease with cutting-edge treatments. Each solution we offer has no downtime and helps you get back to living comfortably without surgery or invasive measures.
Varicose Veins
If you have an enlarged, raised, or swollen vein, you might have a varicose vein. These vessels appear as blue or purple and rope-like under the skin’s surface, typically around the ankles and feet.
These veins can cause aching, heaviness, throbbing, itching, cramping, or swelling. In addition, varicose veins that go without treatment can put you at risk for further complications.
How Are Varicose Veins Treated?
Our team treats varicose veins with injectable solutions, including VenaSeal and Varithena. These treatments help close problem veins, so blood can reroute through healthier vessels.
- Varithena consists of a microfoam that collapses twisted, bulging varicose veins. Many patients typically see an improvement in 4 or more sessions.
- VenaSeal is a medical adhesive that seals the varicose vein shut. Patients require one session of VenaSeal to reroute blood flow and close the damaged vein.
Sometimes, we use a combination of Varithena and VenaSeal to treat unhealthy veins in Fort Myers. This lets us target multiple varicose veins at different depths and sizes.
Spider Veins
Spider veins are smaller, visible veins on the skin’s surface. These broken vessels often look like clusters of thin red, blue, or purple lines.
For many, spider veins only present a cosmetic issue. But they can also appear alongside symptoms of vein disease or varicose veins.
How Are Spider Veins Treated?
To treat spider veins, we use sclerotherapy. This injectable solution breaks down broken vessels to improve their appearance. After 4 or more sessions of sclerotherapy, our patients see clearer skin that makes them feel more confident.
Venous Ulcers and Skin Changes
Often, if vein disease goes untreated, it can change your skin color and texture or lead to an open sore. These shallow wounds, known as venous ulcers, happen when pressure builds up in the veins and damages skin and tissue.
These wounds need treatment to heal. Our team has a comprehensive approach to wound care to support the healing of venous ulcers.
How Are Venous Ulcers Treated?
For venous ulcers, we perform ongoing wound care. Through a series of appointments with us, we clean the sore, treat it, and dress it with protective bandages. Diligent wound care requires at-home attention as well, so we show you how to do that during your appointments.
